I love apples and cinnamon – this recipe did NOT disappoint! It’s truly delicious – and very easy!
Ingredients
- Dough:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup milk (may need another tsp)
- Apples:
- 6 baking apples, peeled and cored
- Sauce:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Dough:
- In a medium size bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt
- Mix in softened butter, add in the milk and mix until soft dough forms
- Divide the dough into 6 even balls, I weighed them on a small scale to ensure equal division
- Assembling:
- Lightly flour work surface, roll out each ball of dough - probably 6-7" across
- Place peeled/cored apple into center of each piece of dough
- Fold the dough up and around the apple, twisting at the top to completely encase the apple
- Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper
- Place each apple bundle onto the paper
- Preheat oven to 350
- Sauce:
- In small pan over medium low heat, combine brown sugar, water, butter and cinnamon. Heat until just boiling, stirring often
- Pour this mix completely over the apples
- Bake at 350 for 50 minutes or until apples are soft and dough is golden brown
- Basting the dumplings with the syrup during cooking is how I make these, or you can bake til brown and then use the extra sauce/syrup to serve
- Whichever way you make them will be fabulous!
- Serve warm in a bowl (don't want to lose that precious sauce!) with a dollop of ice cream
As always – enjoy!!
