I love to make spicy cheese straws – the perfect little crunch to add to a party – place on a platter and they will disappear! These are amazing – VERY flavorful and just delicious 🙂
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 8-10 oz extra sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 5-6 Tbs hot pepper jelly
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400, prepare 2 large rimmed baking pans with parchment paper
- Whisk flour, cornstarch, powdered sugar, mustard, cayenne pepper, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside
- Beat cheese and butter in a large bowl of a stand mixture for about 3-4 minutes, or until well combined
- Add egg, beat until just combined, then add flour mixture and mix on low until just combined, about 90 seconds
- Scoop (I use a cookie scoop) 1 Tbsp of dough and then roll with hands to form a ball; place on sheets, about 1" apart from each other
- Press thumb or a spoon into the dough ball to create an well about 1/4" deep
- Spoon about 1/2 tsp of pepper jelly into each well
- Bake for about 12-14 minutes, rotating pans half way through the cooking process to ensure even baking
- Cool about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely
As always – enjoy!
